"David Gracon has been truly instrumental in my scholarly life. His thoughtful consultation and generous advice during my Fulbright Scholar grant application gave me the confidence and clarity I needed at a pivotal moment, ultimately helping me secure the fellowship that brought me to UC Berkeley. I first began working with him on media literacy projects, and his guidance continued to be used for bridging the community and academia, becoming a lasting foundation of my work."

"I had the pleasure of consulting with David Gracon regarding a Fulbright Specialist application. Dave listened carefully to my considerations and academic background. He recommended several excellent strategies to use when applying and suggested aspects of my background that would align quite well with the Fulbright Specialist Program. This all proved to be successful as I was placed on the Fulbright roster as a Specialist."

I am about to begin my Fulbright at Penn State University, and David Gracon’s guidance was key in this achievement. Our long Q&A sessions helped me clarify the best direction for my proposal, understand Fulbright’s expectations, and connect my background with the program’s goals. His feedback on my Project Statement gave me the clarity I needed to strengthen my application. Receiving the scholarship on my first attempt was very much due to his timely advice and steady guidance throughout the process.

The Media Literacy course was engaging and interactive, allowing us to apply our own ideas in creative ways. It helped me distinguish between fake and real news and uncover hidden messages in media. The professor made learning enjoyable and encouraged active participation, which made me feel comfortable sharing my thoughts.

I first met Professor David Gracon during my university years, when he came to teach Media Literacy as a Fulbright exchange lecturer. I still remember every single class : thought-provoking lectures, engaging delivery, and creative assignments that always pushed us a little outside the box (sometimes way outside). Most importantly, he always saw us as individuals, respecting our different interests and encouraging us to grow in our own ways. I was so inspired by his course that I ended up earning an individual scholarship for outstanding academic achievement and commitment, a proof that his teaching was not only memorable, but also transformative. Looking back, I often joke that if all courses had been like his, I would probably still be a full-time student today.
-- Khrystusia Mahas, former Media Literacy Student at Precarpathian National University, Ivano-Frankivsk, Ukraine
Working with Professor Gracon was extremely helpful for my application. His insights into the process, clear feedback, and encouragement provided me with direction and confidence. I genuinely appreciated his guidance and would recommend his consulting services to anyone considering the program.
